The Short[]
Plot: It seems that every time Farina eats meat, he has strange nightmares. After the gang chases him away from their barbecue, Farina recovers a picnic basket that falls off a truck with more than enough food in it. After a meal of ice cream to fried chicken, he dozes off to a very strange dream. Waking up in a tailcoat and top hat, he sees a girl who flirts with him. When he gets down on one knee as if to propose, she runs away and vanishes, and then gigantic versions of his friends chase him through the streets. He jumps off a bridge, diving underwater to escape them. After getting back to shore with a prodding from a swordfish, he then gets blown away by a dynamite blast, landing on a ledge of a building he climbs to temporarily escape the gang. After shimmying up a flagpole that's sawed off from under him, he plummets back to bed where he awakes and he swears to only eat mush.
Quotes:
- "The Gang - Somebody suggested a barbecue - After that the whole neighborhood was in danger..." - Opening Screen Narration
- "Hey Mister - Yo' dropped somethin'" - Farina in a whisper.
- "Ah eat mush from now on!" - Farina Hoskins
Notes/Trivia:
- The miniature sets used in the short are from Hal Roach's comedy series, "The Dippy Doo Dads."
- During the series, many fans were puzzled by Farina's gender as to whether he was male or female. Hal Roach seized on the question as a publicity gimmick, and to exacerbate the question, Farina is referred to as a "her" in this episode and yet, also takes the time to flirt with a girl while dressed obviously as a male in a tailcoat and top hat and so apparently even the Little Rascals themselves got confused over the matter at times.
- The scene were the food falls out of the back of the truck and Farina starts feasting is on the Woodbine Street side of 3402 Motor Avenue in the Palms neighborhood of Los Angeles.[1]
