History: Robert Howard Young started out as a child actor at Hal Roach Studios, adding his mother's maiden name, "Clifton" to his own to keep from being confused with another young actor named Robert Young. Starting out in the Our Gang silents, he popped up only a few times in the Talkies before he came under contract to Warner Brothers, starring in a number of western and film noir films. His cleft chin reminded a few of Kirk Douglas. He was also featured in the comedy shorts of Joe McDoakes where he excelled as a comic actor. He was also capable of playing villains. With the exceptions of Richard Moore, Jackie Cooper and Robert Blake, he possibly had a better post-Rascals career than any other Rascal. His 1950 divorce from his wife, however, left him living in a hotel. One of his last roles was a sneering villan in the 1951 Roy Rogers film, "The Trail Of Robin Hood." The next year, he fell asleep while smoking and died in his hotel room from smoke inhalation.
