This is a chronological sequence of prominent and important dated events in the history of Our Gang along with a few token events of significance for points of reference. What's interesting about putting these dates in sequence like this is just how the Little Rascals ranked in age with each other; one can also note here that most of the Our Gang stars were not even born yet at the time the series had started.

  • 1940, April 27 - The New Pupil premieres; it is Froggy's first appearance in the series.
  • 1940, October 5 - Waldo's Last Stand premieres; it is Waldo's last appearance in the series.
  • 1940, November 23 - Kiddie Kure premieres; it is Alfalfa's last appearance in the series.
  • 1941, December 8 - The United States declares war on Germany, marking its entry into World War Two.
  • 1941, December 13 - Wedding Worries premieres; it is Darla's last appearance in the series.
  • 1942, January 24 - Melodies Old And New premieres; it is Janet Burston's first appearance in the series.
  • 1942, May 30 - Surprised Parties premieres; it is the last short directed by Edward Cahn (for the time being).
  • 1942, July 18 - Doin' Their Bit premieres; it is the first short in the series directed by Herbert Glazer, and the first short in the series to lose money at the box office.
  • 1942, September (estimated) - Walt Kelly's first issue of Our Gang Comics is released.

  • 1942, December 21 - Spanky McFarland and Alfalfa Switzer appear in the film Johnny Doughboy, with Jane Withers.
  • 1943, February 22 - Donald Haines is killed in action as a member of the United States Army Air Corp. He is the second known Little Rascal lost after departing the series.
  • 1943, October 23 - Three Smart Guys is released; Edward Cahn briefly returns to direct.
  • 1944, April 1 - Radio Bugs is released; it is the first short for Cyril Endfield, the series final director,
  • 1944, April 15 - Tale Of A Dog premieres as an MGM Miniature
  • 1944, April 29 - Dancing Romeo premieres; it's the last short in the series.
  • 1945, May 17 - Robert Hutchins is killed in a Army Air Corp training exercise. He is the third known Little Rascal lost after departing the series.
  • 1946 - Hal Roach sells the rights of the sound shorts in the seires to Erko for home movie distribution. Due to copyright issues, Erko renames the series Kids 'N Pets.
  • 1947, June 12 - Carl Switzer reprises his role as "Alfalfa" in Gas House Kids Go West
  • 1947, August 23 - Curley premieres; it is Hal Roach's first attempt at recreating Our Gang. The same day, Carl Switzer reprises his role as "Alfalfa" again in Gas House Kids In Hollywood
  • 1948, March 25 - William Laughlin is struck and killed on his bicycle by a car near La Puente, California. He is the fourth Little Rascal to pass away after departing the series.
  • 1948, April 9 - Who Killed Doc Robbin premieres; it is Hal Roach's second and last attempt at recreating Our Gang.
  • 1949, April - Walt Kelly's last issue of Our Gang Comics is released.

1950s[]

  • 1950 - Hal Roach sells the rights of the sound shorts in the series to another company, Official Films, for home movie distribution. Official renames the series Famous Kids Comedies.
  • 1950 - Hal Roach sells the rights of the sound shorts to Monogram Pictures (later known as "Allied Artists") for theatrical distribution. Monogram renames the series The Little Rascals.
  • 1954 - Some of the former Our Gang kids are reunited on the television show You Asked For It.
  • 1955, September (estimated) - Allied Artists, under their television division Interstate Television Corporation, releases their Little Rascals package of seventy-nine sound shorts and thirteen silent shorts to the syndicated television market.
  • 1956, January - Dell Comics' first issue of Four Color Comics: The Little Rascals is released.
  • 1958, January - Carl Switzer is shot and killed over a $50 debt in Northern California. The shooting is ruled justified homicide by the police. He is the fifth known Little Rascal lost after departing the series, lending credence to a "Little Rascals Curse."
  • 1958 - Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer brings their fifty-two Our Gang shorts to television.
  • 1959, May 5 - Little Rascals Varieties, a compilation of musical shorts taken from Our Gang Follies Of 1936, The Pinch Singer, Reunion In Rhythm, and Our Gang Follies Of 1938, is released to theaters by Allied Artists.

1960s[]

  • 1961 - King World Productions buys The Little Rascals television package (excluding the silent shorts) from Allied Artists. Additionally, Hal Roach sells the Pathé silent shorts to National Telepix, who shows the films on television under the titles Mischief Makers.
  • 1962, March - Dell Comics' last issue of Four Color Comics: The Little Rascals is released.
  • 1962, August 4 - Actress Marilyn Monroe is found dead of an "accidental overdose" in Westwood, California; her death is considered the end of innocence in Hollywood.
  • 1963, November 22 - President John F. Kennedy is assassinated during a visit to Dallas, Texas (George McFarland's home town); the event is considered one of the major events of the Twentieth Century.
  • 1968, May 8 - Scotty Beckett dies in a nursing home in Hollywood, California from complications from a physical attack.

1970s[]

  • 1970, August 20 - Mickey Daniels passes away unnoticed from cirrhosis of the liver in San Diego, California.
  • 1971 - King World begins removing and editing Little Rascals shorts with alleged politically incorrect content from television.
  • 1973, June 1 - Mary Kornman passes away from cancer in Glendale, California.
  • 1977, October 13 - Jackie Condon passes away from cancer.
  • 1977 - Our Gang - The Life And Times of the Little Rascals by Leonard Maltin and Richard Bann is published.
  • 1977 - Norman Lear produces two Little Rascals television pilots for ABC; his proposed series is not picked up.
  • 1979, June 13 - Darla Jean Hood passes away from complications with hepatitis in Los Angeles, California.
  • 1979, December 3 - The Little Rascals Christmas Special, an animated television special, premieres on NBC. It featured the voices of Darla Jean Hood and Matthew Beard. A series of 156 thirty second Public Service Announcements featuring the Rascals began airing on television during commercial breaks.

1980s[]

  • 1980 - Allen Hoskins passes away from cancer.
  • 1980 - The Los Angeles chapter of The Sons of the Desert holds a Little Rascals reunion.
  • 1980, October 10 - William Thomas Jr. passes away from a heart attack in his home in Los Angeles, California.
  • 1981, January 8 - Matthew Beard passes away from pneumonia in Los Angeles, California.
  • 1981, October 10 - Actor/comedian Eddie Murphy debuts his impersonation of Buckwheat as an adult.
  • 1981, October 15 - Kendall McComas commits suicide in Lake Isabella, California
  • 1982, September 25 - The Little Rascals (animated series) debuts on ABC-TV as part of its Saturday Morning line-up and runs for two years.
  • 1982, November 13 - Robert Blake stars in an opening "Our Gang" spoof on "Saturday Night Live."
  • 1984, March - A series of commercials for Jell-O Gelatin Pops, featuring the Rascals, begin airing.
  • 1984, September 1 - The Little Rascals (animated series) makes its last known appearance on American television.
  • 1984, March 10 - June Marlowe passes away in Burbank, California.
  • 1985, February 4 - Brandon "Bug" Hall born in Fort Worth, Texas.
  • 1985 - The Los Angeles chapter of The Sons of the Desert holds a Little Rascals Reunion with Hal Roach and eleven Rascals in attendance.
  • 1984 - Sidney Kibrick holds another Little Rascals reunion to celebrate the opening of his forty acre RV park near Palm Springs, California.
  • 1986 (estimated) - The Little Rascals shorts are released in the home video market for the first time (through Blackhawk Films).
  • 1987, January 6 - Kevin Jamal Woods born in Los Angeles, California.
  • 1987, August 6 - Sherwood Bailey passes away in Newport Beach, California.

  • 1993, April 22 - George McFarland guest stars as himself in the episode, "Woody Gets An Election," on the NBC TV series, "Cheers."
  • 1993, June 30 - George McFarland passes away from cardiac arrest in Grapevine, Texas.
  • 1994, June 6 - Johnny M. Downs dies of cancer in Coronado, California.
  • 1994, August 5 - Universal Pictures releases The Little Rascals.
