The Story

Plot: The Gang needs money for war bonds, so the boys decide to form a detective agency. Janey, thinking that their idea is silly, asks Doctor Hawke for an odd job she and the others can do. The doctor has the boys deliver boxes of old junk to his fishing shack across the river, convincing them that they are actually protecting sacred trappings of the Woddami Tribe. Meanwhile, Monk and Hammer, a couple of crooks, are using the shack to store black market butter before delivering it down the stream. The kids' pal Bruiser gets taken into the crime by the equally crooked Jake. When the Gang mistakenly get Doctor Hawke's boxes mixed up with the black marketers' crates of butter, it's up to them to save the day, and get Bruiser out of the ring.

  • Also known as "Our Gang and the Fearless Detective Agency."
  • This issue marked the second appearance of Bruiser, a reformed member of a teenage gang that had been introduced in Issue 13. Here, it is established that Bruiser is an old friend of Red's.

  • "Relax, Dr. Hawke! The Peerless and Fearless Detective Agency hasn't failed yet!" - (Froggie)
