History: Harold Wertz was brought into Our Gang to replace Chubby Chaney, but was upstaged and replaced by the more durable fan favorite, George McFarland. Despite only three shorts, he stayed in California and was raised in Long Beach. After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School, he joined the merchant marine and was on one of the first ships to enter Tokyo after World War Two. After marrying Kathleen McCracken, a high school sweetheart, he started a pipe company. In his private life, he restored Model A Fords and participated in a few recreational vehicle clubs as well as a few nostalgic Rascal reunions. His last appearance was the October 16 Sons Of The Desert at the Laurel And Hardy Club at the Culver Hotel in Culver City, not far from many of the locations used in the series. He passed away from complications with a stroke on November 21, 1999, twelve years later than Maltin and Bann reported in their book.
