J. D. Broderick is the casting director for Mammoth Studios, a local motion picture company. One day on his way to work, his car gets a flat tire, and while the driver replaces it, Broderick watches the gang play a baseball game. Upon seeing their dog Rover play well at second base, he decides to give the dog a screen test for a current movie. The screen test results in failure when neither the filmmakers nor the gang can coax Rover to bark on cue.
