The Short[]

Plot: It's time to elect a new president for the One For All And All For One Club and Mickey is running unopposed until Froggy decides he wants to be president of the club. The first ballot ends in a tie vote so they have another election planned for after the two boys have done some campaigning. Mickey bribes the kids with free lemonade, and Froggy counters with free jelly beans, resulting in another tied election. The decision is made to split the club in half with each club president leading their share of supporters. The result is a lot of fighting and disharmony until Buckwheat forces everyone to realize what has happened by using the American Civil War as an example. Another election is held to bring the two halves of the club together. The result is one vote for Mickey, Froggy and Buckwheat and a landslide in favor of Janet Burston who immediately steers the club directly into uncharted feminine territory!

Notes/Trivia:

  • No adults appeared in this short.
  • This short seems to have been a parody of the wartime presidential campaign of Thomas Dewey and Franklin Delano Roosevelt which was occurring at the same time.
  • For reasons unexplained, Dickie Hall played the role of "Happy" in this film, rather than Mickey Laughlin. Mickey Laughlin wound up appearing as an extra in this short.
  • Cameraman Robert Surtees went on to win an Academy Award for his work in the industry. His films include "King Solomon's Mines," "Quo Vadis," "Mogambo," "The Graduate," "Summer of '42" and "The Sting."
  • In the last vote, Mickey and Froggy try to break the first two 18-18 ties by voting for each other. Early in the film, Janet explains to Froggy that he can't vote for himself. Therefore in the final vote, Janet votes for Buckwheat, and Buckwheat and 34 other club members vote for Janet.
